Welcome to the
SH 82 Corridor Optimization Plan website

Introduction
State Highway (SH) 82, also known as Highway 82, is the primary north-south roadway that serves the Roaring Fork Valley. Highway 82 extends from I-70 through Glenwood Springs, and regional commuters use it to get to and from communities south of the City, including Aspen, Carbondale, Basalt, and others.
Within Glenwood Springs, Highway 82 is also known as Grand Avenue. It serves as the City’s main street and is an important roadway for residents.
Highway 82 is not only a regional highway that passes through Glenwood Springs, it also acts as the main street through downtown. Therefore it is important to select alternatives that accommodate both local and regional needs.
SH 82 Corridor Optimization Process
Glenwood Springs, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and Garfield County recently conducted the SH 82 Corridor Optimization Study. The study, available by clicking here, identified and evaluated potential solutions for the Highway 82 corridor.
The current step is the development of the SH 82 Corridor Optimization Plan. The goal of the plan is to score and prioritize the alternatives developed as part of the SH 82 Corridor Optimization Study and identify those that best improve both regional travel and local mobility while balancing community, environmental, safety, and financial demands.
Public input is a critical part of the Corridor Optimization Plan. Although a lists of potential alternatives has been developed, pubic comments are needed to help reduce the list down to options that will be evaluated in greater detail in the next study phase.
Once the number of alternatives has been narrowed down, the remaining alternatives will be studied as part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. NEPA is an in-depth study process that evaluates how alternatives would impact the environment, including natural resources, cultural resources, and socioeconomic resources. The final decision regarding which alternative will be implemented does not occur until the end of the NEPA process.
We Need Your Input
The study team has come up with several alternatives to address future traffic needs. We would like you to tell us what you think about them. Your input is a very important part of the decision-making process.
The alternatives were presented at our recent open house, and can be viewed here.
If you travel on Highway 82/Grand Avenue, please take a moment to review the alternatives and complete a survey so we can consider your input as we develop the SH 82 Corridor Optimization Plan.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact us with any questions or comments.
